Q1. Please give a brief self-introduction.
Hello. I am Lee Ik-bin, a first-half 2025 volunteer at Migration to Asia Peace (MAP)! I am on the AP Team, handling the publication of Displaced and advocacy and external outreach.
Q2. Please share your motivation for applying to MAP.
Last year, while working as an intern at an organization, I had the chance to teach global citizenship education to elementary, middle, and high school students. While preparing a lesson on refugees I looked up information, and I came to want to learn and know more. At the same time, I wanted to help, even in a small way, if there was something I could do!
Q3. What was the most memorable moment during your activities?
Every moment with MAP is meaningful, but… I remember the orientation day, when I arrived with a trembling heart. I had the feeling that I would be able to spend good time with good people! These days I am working on publishing Displaced, and I have certainly come to look up more about related issues.
Q4. What do you think our society needs most in order to live together with refugees?
I think it is eyes that can see refugees as people just like us, as they are. I believe that even a single way of looking can change a lot.
Q5. Finally, is there an activity you would recommend to people interested in refugee issues?
I recommend volunteering with Migration to Asia Peace. By being active with WE MAP, I too was able to move one step closer to the field I am interested in! I hear that second-half recruitment has just begun. Haha.
