Hello! My name is Kim Dong-gyu. The project I will be in charge of is “Support for Running the Korean Language School for Refugees and the Refugee Child Protection Program for Social Integration”. After serving for a year as a Young Professional (YP) at the KOICA Morocco Office last year, I applied to be a YP at an implementing organization to broaden my experience in the field of development cooperation. My main interests are child education, child welfare and refugee support.
As an implementing organization of international development cooperation projects, I wanted to experience an NGO, and I wanted to learn about the situation of refugees in Korea and the activities of organizations that support them.
I want to be an active volunteer. Because this is work I have wanted to do, I plan to take part in MAP’s YP activities proactively.
The things that give me small but certain happiness are sleeping well, listening to relaxing music (for example, piano or classical music), eating delicious food, watching my favorite movies or reading, and spending comfortable and enjoyable time with people I know.
I will work to make sure that the refugee Korean language school and the refugee child protection program I am about to support run smoothly and energetically during my time there. I would also like to pay attention to the process by which refugee children enter the Korean public education system, think about what additional support might help refugee children settle in Korean society, and identify their needs.
