Hello! I am Kim Hyeon-bin, a KOICA YP who will be in charge of the capacity-building project for refugee youth and young adults. Please call me “Bini”. Let us have a good seven months together :)
In 2018, the issue of Yemeni refugees was a hot potato. The mood of treating people who had come because they needed help as potential criminals felt strange to me. I attended a conference on refugee issues with a friend who thought as I did and took related courses at university, but it was still hard to understand refugees’ lives properly. So I applied to MAP to hear the voices of refugees directly in the field.
I want to be a “considerate” volunteer. When communicating with refugees, a caring mind is important for knowing what they need.
I think the attitude we need most is to value things as they are. These days, when I visit a bookstore, self-help books are always on the bestseller list. That many people look for self-help books shows a desire to live a better life, but it also means that many people are not satisfied with their present lives. If we looked at ourselves a little more generously than we do now, would society not be a little less harsh?
I love food. My favorite is the combination of chocolate chip cookies and milk. At night, when I play a favorite song and dip a chocolate chip cookie into milk, I feel as happy as if I had the whole world.😆
I want to bring about a change so that every member of our society can freely pursue their dreams and live together.
