Dialogue with Refugees visited Jinju! Over two days, on October 28 and 29, together with speakers Yamin Ae, Naim and Saleh, we gave guest lectures in the Gyeongsang National University courses “Human Rights and the World” and “Sociology of Human Rights.”
Below are some of the reflections from students who attended the lectures 😆😆 Thank you all for taking part so actively!
“Before hearing the speakers’ stories, I personally had a strong image of ‘refugees’ and ‘foreigners’ as people who need to be protected. But as Korean society changes, I hope that refugees will in future be seen not as people who need to be protected but as ‘neighbors who coexist with one another.’”
“I only knew the word refugee, and I had no interest in why refugees became refugees or how they are treated, but after hearing the stories of the three speakers I became more interested in refugees and wanted to hear more of their stories.”
“Having been born and raised in Korea, I think I did not have many chances to look closely at refugees, but after listening to the three speakers I could see that the status of a foreigner in Korea is relatively very weak, and that even attention and proper treatment are not given.”
