Q1. Please give a brief self-introduction!

Hello, I am Han Chae-yeon, a second-half 2023 volunteer who is majoring in anthropology😊 I am looking forward to the days that MAP and I will build together over the next six months!

Q2. Please tell us about your motivation for joining MAP and the work you do.

Through my activities in the rights study group of my anthropology department and in AIESEC, an international leadership organization, I became interested in the human rights problems of socially vulnerable people who are marginalized around the world and in every part of society. I thought MAP was a place that could give me deeper learning about the international refugee issues I had been interested in, and a place where I could gain rich field experience and carry out practical activities, so I applied to be a volunteer without hesitation^^

Q3. What do you think our society needs most right now in order to become a better society?

I think it is listening. Everyone has their own values and thoughts, but I think it is important to listen carefully to the opinions of people who differ from us. I think that the conflicts and pain in our society also arise largely from a lack of understanding of people who are different from one another. If we listen to other people’s thoughts and feelings with a more open mind and accept them, I think we could become a warmer society!

Q4. What gives you your own small but certain happiness?

I like going out on nice days with friends or family. Even if we do not do anything special, just spending time with my precious people who match me well gives me small but truly certain happiness. Sometimes, to have time of my own, I walk around my favorite cafe or walking trail, listen to music and eat delicious dessert. I try to give myself time to heal in the middle of daily life, haha.

Q5. Lastly, what kind of “change” do you want to bring about through your activities at MAP?

Since I am producing videos on MAP’s Peace Board to support the initial settlement of refugees, my greatest wish is that the videos I plan and produce will be of at least some help to refugees! I also plan to keep thinking constantly over the half year, and to steadily record the realizations of each moment, so that I can treat my activities at MAP as an opportunity to learn and broaden the range of my perspectives and thinking about international refugees and human rights.
