The
💭 Yeonu said the environment around the school was wonderful. The atmosphere was more relaxed than at other schools, so much so that he thought, “I wish I had attended a school like this” when he was young. He also said it was impressive that, unlike elsewhere, students introduced the friend sitting next to them instead of themselves. He said the students knew well what their friends like and what they are good at. He shared that, seeing students so closely connected to one another, the philosophy of Eunyeoul, which aims to nurture a communal sensibility, stood out. 💭 He said the question “You must have felt lonely living alone in Jeju after coming to Korea at a young age. How did you overcome that?” stayed with him. Yeonu answered that he could not find a way to relieve loneliness and stress and simply endured, but that because of this he became very ill and is still receiving treatment. So he added that he hopes the students will find a way to relieve stress right away when they feel it. 💭 In addition, the students kept the conversation going by asking Yeonu a variety of questions. “Out of so many countries, how did you come to Korea?” “How did you come to leave Syria?” “What was your dream when you lived in Syria?” “How did you feel when you came to Korea and were able to enjoy freedom?” “What kinds of things have you done since coming to Korea? Have you dated?” “What are the good things about living in Korea? Or were there any cultures that were hard to understand or accept?” “There is a concern that refugees will reduce jobs for Koreans. What do you think about that?”
