‘Together We Can: Together We Heal, Learn and Shine’ This was the theme of the campaign that Migration to Asia Peace (MAP) ran in June, when World Refugee Day (20 June) took place. The phrase “Together We Can,” full of positive conviction and hope, condenses the experience of MAP activists who have met and worked with many refugee communities and countless refugees over the years. However, the number of activists who live alongside refugees is small, and in their own daily lives refugees become a “we” with someone other than an activist. So we went to find refugees and their friends. Refugees living in four regions, Gyeongnam, Jeonbuk, Gyeonggi, and Seoul, and their Korean friends agreed to record their stories on video and share them with fellow citizens and refugees.
We introduce the four stories of ‘Refugees and Their Korean Friends.’ Spending time with friends heals us, teaches us something valuable, and brings light and smiles to our faces when we are with them. The friends in the videos are the same. Friends are good to have, but it seems that finding a friend, or becoming friends with someone, is not always easy. How did these people become friends?👋
